You all remember the Terminator right? Played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Dressed in black. Memorable dialogue: ‘I’ll be back.’
But here’s some dialogue maybe you don’t remember – spoken in the film by the character of Kyle Reese – talking ABOUT The Terminator and why Terminators are super scary:
“It can’t be reasoned with, it can’t be bargained with…it doesn’t feel pity or remorse or fear…and it absolutely will not stop. Ever.”
Ok so that sounds pretty scary. But we’re just normal guys and gals, right? We don’t go around driving stolen cars into police stations, or waving shotguns around.
And I’d never go into a Hells Angels Bar and ask some biker dude to give me his leathers and the keys to his bike – would you? But wouldn’t it be great if the competitors in your market viewed you as a ‘Terminator?’
So What Can We Do To Make Our Competitors View Us In This Way?
There’s one activity that’s just about guaranteed to make your competitors view you in this way. And that’s the regular creation of new and valuable content. And not just any old content, but quality content.
Here’s the important part of the equation – not just a bit of quality content. But lots of quality content. If you start producing a high volume of quality content then your competitors will start to see you as one of the Terminators in your market.
Umm, Aren’t You Stretching The Dramatic Angle A Bit?
Maybe. But maybe not.
Because here’s what I truly believe: if you’ve got an internet based business the activity of producing quality content will really make you stand out in your market.
If your content is a few recycled PLR articles placed on an Adsense based website then maybe you’ll get a few clicks, but not much. If your content is average – or even good – then you’ll do better.
But if your content is excellent your website will float to the top of your niche. You may not make it to the very top if you’re in a competitive niche, but you won’t know until you try.
But YOU Won’t Just Have A Bit Of Excellent Content– You Want To Be A Terminator, So You’re Going To Have LOTS of it
This is something else you have to factor in. Let’s say you decide that the production cycle for fresh and valuable content for your online business is ‘only’ going to be 3 pieces of great content a week. In a year’s time, you’ll amass 150 pieces of content.
That kind of output will put you in the top few percent of your market. If you don’t believe me head over to Google and do some research – find the top people in your market and look at their sites. Count up how many articles they have – or other content like videos – in most markets I’ll be surprised if it’s as many as 50.
But let’s be generous and say it’s 50. Those 50 pieces of content probably represents a few years work. Heck if you really wanted to, YOU could overtake them in a few weeks.
Once You Get Ahead Of Your Competitors You’ll Stay Ahead
Because let’s say you spend 10 weeks putting 50 pieces of content on your website, or on YouTube, or guest posts on popular blogs in your market, or wherever; you’ll find that at the end of that 50 articles you’re not only be better at creating content, but more efficient at it too.
So you’ll be able to keep fresh quality content coming out at regular intervals. Which Google loves. And your audience will love. And as your audience grows, people will view you as one of the authority figures in your niche (because you are), and link to your content and your website.
And Google has got spiders that like to find links. And when the spiders find the links to your site you’ll rise in the search engine rankings. And more people will come to your site, read your articles, view you as an authority, buy into some of the products you’ve now developed, and pretty soon…
…A Day Will Come, You’ll Wake Up And Find You’re An Overnight Success (a year, or 2 years, or 5 years in the making)
This overnight success starts with two kinds of persistence: the persistence to create content regularly (daily is best), and the persistence to keep going until the job is done. And never stop for anything. Ever.
And ultimately that’s the path to being the Terminator in your market. Because you put out great quality content for your audience. And you can’t be stopped. Ever.
